I am a passionate and resourceful high school Mathematics teacher with 31 years of teaching experience. I have a B.ED Mathematics degree, which I obtained at Rhodes University. I have been a Marker and Senior Marker for the National Senior Certificate Examination for Mathematics Paper 2 for about 8 years. My matric results have always been of the best in the District / Province.
I was a Mathematics Head of Department for 10 years. During this time I explored different ways of improving the teaching and learning of Mathematics that would be beneficial for all the learners with diverse backgrounds. I was chosen to be a Mentor Teacher for the Dinaledi Project. I assisted with the training of teachers to improve their teaching and assessment skills in Mathematics.
I was very fortunate to be part of a group of Mathematics Teachers to go to the United States of America for 3 months. This allowed me to interact with their educators and learners, familiarise myself with their teaching skills and explore the integral aspects of their education system. My expertise, specialised teaching methods and excellent resource materials, guarantees professionalism, commitment, flexibility and patience. Ultimately, the latter will enable any learner to overcome their challenges and insecurities with Mathematics.

Choosing MathStar was the best decision i made in my matric year. Mrs Carelse helped me to become so confident in my math skills & knowledge by always being willing to re-explain anything I did not understand or working slowly and step by step through an extra few activities with me until I fully grasped the concept. & as a result my math mark constantly improved. Her teaching method and way of explaining is like no other. Mrs Carelse was also so encouraging and always motivating and inspiring before any big exam or test , her words genuinely helped a lot. I attended MathStar for a very short period of time, but the tutor at hand has proved to be very helpful! Mrs. Carelse explained the work that I and a few others had struggled with and made sure that we understood. She really tried her best to let us know that we are capable and are able to achieve our best. She offers not only the classes, but also provides notes and worksheets to help us improve as well. My personal experience of being taught by Mrs Carelse was just WOW! Her way of teaching maths and explaining until every student in her class understood was what i liked most about her. So even if maths is not your favorite subject, I promise you'll fall inlove with maths when you get to be taught by her. I used to look forward to go to maths class because she made each and every topic so exciting,fun and easy to understand. She also made sure to encourage us, keep us motivated throughout the year and most importantly believing in us.
